History

Colmec History

1973

THE BIRTH OF A REALITY

In December, Giannino Colombo establishes COLMEC in Busto Arsizio (Varese). The new company starts to produce extruders and mills for rubber and plastic materials.

1978

THE SECOND HEADQUARTER LOCATION

Due to COLMEC’s ever-increasing success in the rubber market, the Busto Arsizio headquarters had become inadequate to meet the increased customer needs. Colmec moves to a larger 4,000 m2 facility in Vanzaghello (Milano).

1983

THE INTERNATIONAL EXPOSURE

The son of Giannino, Ubaldo Colombo, PhD in Mechanical Engineering starts to work for COLMEC. Colmec decides to produce mainly machinery for the rubber industry. New vulcanization ovens are developed in order to realize complete extrusion lines for the continuous production of rubber profiles. The international exposure of Colmec equipment begins.

1985

NEW OVEN SERIES

Colmec produces a new line of salt bath ovens, using diathermic oil as the salt heating source. This system becomes important for significant energy savings in the management of the vulcanization process and especially for the reduction of wash water pollution. Molten salt is recovered from the wash water and automatically reintroduced into the vulcanization oven..

1990

MARKET LAUNCH OF THE FIRST LINES FOR THE PRODUCTION OF RADIATOR HOSES

Colmec launches the first complete lines for the production of continuous-process radiator hoses on the market.
Prior to this advancement, radiator hose were produced in three distinct phases:

  • first step: sub-layer extrusion
  • second phase: braiding with textile reinforcement
  • third phase: final covering

The continuous-stage advancement is increasingly adopted in the automotive industry due to its producing a better quality hose that is repeatable and continuously controlled by increasingly modern control technology.  From that moment on, the analysis and control of the process parameters have become an everyday reality.

1992

SILICONE EXTRUDERS AND CURING OVENS

Purpose built silicone extruders and curing ovens are developed and produced. They are considered the best in quality in the industry.

1996

COMPLETE SOLUTIONS

Colmec supplies complete solutions for the production of:

  • air conditioning hose
  • power steering hose
  • brake hose
  • fuel hose
1998
